Mutton Tehari: the rice dish Dhaka eats for lunch

Ask anyone from Dhaka what they ate for lunch on a busy weekday and tehari comes up fast. It is a plate you can eat with one hand while the other one holds the cha: rice and meat cooked together in one pot, so every grain carries the flavor of the mutton.

What is in it

Our tehari is fragrant rice cooked with mutton, fried onion and green chili. The onion is fried until it is sweet and dark, the mutton cooks until it gives way to a spoon, and the whole chili sits in the rice for aroma more than heat. It is served hot with a little raw onion and chili on the side, the way it comes on a Dhaka street.

Mild, medium or Dhaka hot

Every plate is cooked to order, so tell us how you like it. Mild keeps the fragrance and the sweetness of the onion. Dhaka hot is the way we eat it ourselves.

Order ahead

Tehari takes a moment to plate properly, so the easiest way is to order online, pick a pickup time, and find it hot and packed when you reach the truck. It also travels well: a tray of tehari is one of the first things people ask for when they book the truck for an office lunch or a family evening.

See it on the menu or order ahead for pickup.
